Rua: Performing Arts Exchange and Collaboration
- Australia
- Fiji
- Music
- Performance
Rua is a contemporary Pasifika theatrical collaboration between Casus Circus (Australia) and Rako Pasefika (Fiji). Drawing on a foundational Pacific origin story, the work brings together music, dance, physical theatre and circus to celebrate the interconnected cultures of Rotuma, Samoa and other neighbours of the Pacific.
The project begins with creative development in Brisbane, where Australian and Fijian artists will establish the work’s artistic language and collaborative framework. It will then move to Suva and Nadi for further development and public performances, before being presented in Rotuma, the cultural home of the story.
Elders, custodians, artists and community members will be invited to contribute knowledge, ceremony and lived experience, helping shape the work and ensuring it remains culturally grounded.
Through workshops, performances and intergenerational exchange, Rua will honour living heritage while creating a new contemporary work built on reciprocity, respect and shared authorship between Australia, Fiji and Rotuma.
